장생포 조이플렉스

장생포의 바다를 품고, 고래의 형상 속에 문화를 담다. 장생포는 고래와 함께 성장해 온, 울산을 대표하는 장소이다. 과거 포경 산업이 번성하던 시절, 고래는 울산 사람들의 삶과 밀접하게 연결되어 있었고, 장생포는 그 역동적인 모습을 보여주는 대표적인 장소였다. 포경 산업이 중심이던 과거를 지나 오늘날의 장생포는 이전과 다른 풍경을 품게 되었고 새로운 시선으로 고래와 바다를 바라보며 지역의 정체성과 문화를 새롭게 구성해 나가고 있다. 우리는 이러한 변화의 흐름 속에서 '웨일 프레임(Whale-Frame)'을 제안한다. 닫힌 형상을 품은 채 열린 풍경을 제안하는 웨일프레임은 장생포의 과거와 현재 그리고 문화를 담아내는 새로운 건축적 장치이자 상징이다.

Jangsaengpo is a place that has grown alongside whales, representing Ulsan. During the era when the whaling industry flourished, whales were closely connected to the lives of Ulsan's people, and Jangsaengpo was a prime location showcasing that dynamic scene. Moving beyond its whaling-centered past, today's Jangsaengpo embraces a different landscape. It is redefining the region's identity and culture by viewing whales and the sea through a new lens. Amidst this wave of change, we propose 'Whale-Frame'. Whale Frame, proposing an open landscape while embracing a closed form, is a new architectural device and symbol that encapsulates Jangsaengpo's past, present, and culture.
