울주 문화원사

빚고, 비워 담다 옹기는 진흙을 정성껏 빚어 무언가를 담기 위해 속을 비워내며 완성한다. 울주군의 문화원사는 비움 속에 문화와 일상을 담아 지역주민 뿐만 아니라 각지에서 모여드는 사람들에게 순간의 경험과 체험을 내어주는 공간이 된다. OCC (Onggi Cultural Center) 숨쉬는 울주군의 외고산 옹기마을은 유일하게 우리나라에서만 생산되는 옹기 50%이상의 생산지분을 갖고 있다. 주거환경이 변하면서 마당에서 흔히 보던 장독대가 하나 둘 사라지는 상황 속에서 외고산의 장인들은 전통적 기술을 유지한 채 현대적 감각을 가미하여 명맥을 이어가기 위해 혼신의 노력을 하고 있다. 옹기(onggi) 자체가 하나의 브랜드이며 명사로서 역할을 하며, 변화를 주도하고 트렌드에 민감하게 반응하는 컨트롤타워 역할을 하는 옹기문화원사(OCC)를 제안한다.

Earthenware is meticulously shaped from clay, hollowed out to hold something within, and thus completed. The Cultural Center in Ulju County becomes a space that holds culture and daily life within its emptiness, offering fleeting experiences and encounters not only to local residents but also to people gathering from all corners. The Ogo-san Onggi Village in the vibrant county of Ulju holds over 50% of the production share for onggi, a type of earthenware produced exclusively in Korea. As residential environments change and the traditional jangdokdae (fermentation jars) once common in courtyards gradually disappear, the artisans of Ogo-san are striving with all their might to preserve the tradition. They maintain the traditional techniques while incorporating a modern sensibility to keep the legacy alive. We propose the Onggi Culture Center (OCC), where onggi itself serves as a brand and a noun, acting as a control tower that drives change and responds sensitively to trends.
